Artistic research residency 2024/2025
In collaboration with the Acoustic and Cognitive Spaces team at Ircam-STMS.
IRCAM (Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique/Musique) is hosting Laurent and Vincent Isnard for a research residency based on the practice of acousmatic massage, with the aim of identifying emotional and affective responses on a scientific and experimental level.
This research will be accompanied by sound creation, using superimposed sound effects, natural sounds, sound extracts, original samples and so on.
Research theme :
Acousmatic massages: towards a sound environment dedicated to well-being.
Research area:
Sound environments for well-being.
Acousmatic massages aim to immerse participants in a sensory bath based on an improvised palette of sounds. These sessions, in which objects of all kinds are used to produce rich, colourful timbres, question our relationship with everyday sounds, which are generally noisy and stressful, in order to encourage new ways of listening to our sound environment.
Indeed, the emotional impact of these sounds seems to be different from that traditionally emphasised in music, generating a mental state that is far removed from reality and conducive to appeasement. Perceptual evaluations will be carried out in an experimental concert situation, paying particular attention to sound space parameters such as the construction of the soundstage and reverberation, in order to determine their influence on emotional feelings.
Ultimately, the aim will be to extend this artistic performance practice to the design of sound environments dedicated to well-being, by offering a catalogue of spatialised sounds and recordings.
